Alexandros Ioannidis is a photographer and filmmaker based in Athens, Greece. He studied Photography at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens, shaping a visual practice that moves between still and moving image. For more than two decades, his work has explored the relationship between narrative, atmosphere and the emotional resonance of the image.

Beginning with photography, he developed a cinematic visual language where each frame functions as part of a broader story. His work moves between constructed scenarios and intuitive observation, exploring the space between reality and imagination. Through light, rhythm and composition, he creates images that evoke subtle narratives and suggest stories beyond the visible moment.

Since 2003, he has been experimenting with instant photography, using Polaroid as a medium to explore memory, presence and the fragility of the image. His artistic work has been presented in exhibitions and international photography festivals, including the 9th International Month of Photography at Agathi Art Gallery with Underground Light (2002), the 16th Thessaloniki Photography Festival (Photosynkyria) with Prestige (2004), a photo essay reflecting on the environmental impact of the sinking of the tanker Prestige on the Spanish coastline, and the 18th Thessaloniki International Photography Festival with Metikasma – Afterimage (2006), presenting visual stories on friendship and family through Polaroid imagery.

Alongside his artistic practice, he collaborates with magazines, publishing houses and advertising agencies, creating visual work that balances conceptual thinking with applied image-making. In 2015, he participated in the Artist Residency of Eagle Palace Resort in Halkidiki together with established Greek artists, further expanding his dialogue between photography and narrative form.

Since 2014, his main focus has expanded into moving image, including experimental films, music videos, commercials and documentaries. His cinematic approach emphasises atmosphere, visual continuity and the emotional rhythm of storytelling. He participated in the film The Last Passage (2013) and later worked as Director of Photography on the feature film The Lifebelt, continuing his exploration of narrative through cinematography.

His practice exists in the space between image and story, where atmosphere becomes language and the visual becomes a way of thinking. Moving between artistic expression and commissioned work, he creates images that seek not only to describe, but to suggest, leaving space for interpretation and experience.
